The town of Lake Wylie
sits across the South Carolina border from Charlotte, in York County, South Carolina. Lake Wylie Township is located on a peninsula along the shores of Lake Wylie in the Piedmont of both North and South Carolina.
The lake itself is a man-made reservoir, much like Lake Norman. The lake has a surface area of 13,400 acres and features 325 miles of shoreline. Lake Wylie's location on both the South Carolina and North Carolina borders makes it a common recreational destination for residents of nearby cities including Charlotte, Fort Mill, and Rock Hill. Duke Power manages six public boat access areas on the lake. Fishing and boating are popular recreational activities on Lake Wylie.
Lake Wylie has a humid subtropical climate, characterized by humid summers and cool dry winters. Precipitation does not vary greatly between seasons with snow, rain, and sleet in the winter months and mostly rain in the summer months with occasional hail from strong thunderstorms.
